After around 40 years of good service, our swimming pool has reached the end of its serviceable life. Douglas and his team have done a very good job of annual cleaning and repairing our facility for the past decade, however despite their efforts, we’ve reached the point where repairs make no sense. Serious structural issues of the pool walls were discovered in January during the annual shut-down, and we have been pursuing solutions since.

We have learned there are a limited number of companies in western Canada who deal with commercial swimming pool repair or installation work. Most companies are booked into 2025 with new projects. Through ORM’s local network, we have connected with a local company who currently service 30+ local facilities and are working on getting a demolition contractor to help with the removal of the existing pool structure. Given the scope and timing of this project, we anticipate it will be several months before our new pool will be operational. We are currently finalizing the job, and once that is complete, will have design and engineering work completed. At that point we can obtain the necessary permitting for the job.

We are very aware of how important our pool is to members, especially those with young families. We are doing our best to have this project completed in the shortest possible time frame. We are optimistic our new pool could be operational at some point this summer, but as stated, remain at the mercy of our contractors and licensing authorities. As with all major capital projects, we seek the best long-term solution for the benefit of our members. We are hopeful the replacement will reduce the down time for annual maintenance over its lifetime.

Given our current cash position, we do not anticipate an increase in annual fees coming as a result of the project. ORM has arranged for Elevation Place passes for those who want to swim while staying at Banff Gate. If your family wishes to go swimming, please contact the front desk.
